Rescue’s Adventures in Lock Down

Adventures can be big or small. RB has had his fair share of both over the years but in 2020/21 RB is really learning to enjoy the small adventures. Having been on the road travelling and working as a theatre mascot for so long RB hasn’t really had much time to investigate home. The crazy events of 2020, RB’s beloved theatres being closed and lock down have presented him with the unexpected opportunity to fully explore his local stomping ground. He wasn’t sure at first, being a bear of the world and all but he’s decided to look on the bright side and embrace it, and as RB always says clouds don’t always cover the entire sky.

RB knows that preparation is the key to success so lets start with what to pack in your *ruck sack:

Bottle of water

Bear snacks

Spare hat (in-case it gets cold, or there’s a good photo op)

Plushie sized kite

Note book and pen (to record brilliant ideas)

A plastic food bag or Tupperware box for potential scrumping (see things to look out for)

*It’s important to make sure that the ruck sack is waterproof in case there’s a sudden down pour. RB enjoys a bath as much as the next plushie but it’s got to be on his own terms.

Things to look out for on a walk…

During 2020 RB has been learning the names of wild flowers like Rosebay Willow Herb and Himalayan Balsam and more importantly he’s discovered some of the fruits we can pick like quince, black berries and sloes. Another really exciting thing RB learnt is that some people have so many apples growing in their gardens that they can’t eat them all themselves and leave them in boxes or bags for anyone who would like them to take away with them. Apples equal puddings and RB is all in favour of more puddings!

What to wear?

I don’t know what it’s like where you live but here in the UK the weather is VERY unpredictable! It can go from sunny and dry to cloudy and throwing it down in a matter a seconds. It can also be lovely and warm one minute then freezing cold the next, all this can make decided what to wear very tricky. It’s best to be prepared with an extra layer and a raincoat or umbrella on paw just in case! Of course being a furry little dude RB doesn’t have to worry too much about getting cold but he does like to have his rain hat with him, especially if dark clouds are gathering.

When planning a new adventure, RB has a rather exciting map which is personalised to where he lives. His human Grandad bought it and it’s great for finding new footpaths although RB has discovered that quite often the footpaths and styles aren’t as easy to find as you’d like them to be. Sometimes RB likes to consult the map and plan a route but sometimes he likes to get lost.

All in all RB’s top tip for adventures in lock down is to pay attention to all the small things, you never know where adventures might be hiding, they could be out in a great big field or by a fast flowing river or they might just be hiding under a cushion on the sofa. The most important thing is to never stop looking for them.
